Matt and Jocelyn Kepner joined the hosts to talk about the importance of fostering and adopting. They talk about Matt’s difficult upbringing. He bounced around houses from the time he was 15 years old until he was an adult. When Matt married Jocelyn, he was worried about being a good father because he didn’t have any good examples while growing up. Jocelyn brought up fostering. They prayed about it, seeking guidance on making such a large commitment and if it would be right for their family. Later on, they felt God calling them to it. Jocelyn explains the purpose of fostering and how it’s different from adoption. Fostering provides children who came from abusive or neglectful homes with a safe place to stay while their parents go through programs to prove to the government that they are fit to take care of their children again. The ultimate goal of fostering is to reunify the children with their parents. In seven years, the Kepners have fostered 29 children. Fostering and adopting can be very rewarding. It requires a lot of patience, compassion and leaning on God. The Kepners say there are important questions every couple or family should ask before fostering or adopting.
