The Hildebrands welcome Carolyn Asher, a counselor at Abundant Life, to discuss children’s grief and loss and ways for parents to help them through that process. Jen shared about losing her brother after a long battle with cancer. She asked Carolyn about the ways to help her children grieve the loss of their uncle. Carolyn says it’s just as important for parents to learn how to grieve so they can help with their children’s grief and loss. She outlined the five stages of grief: Denial Anger Bargaining Depression Acceptance Going through the stages of grief and loss is difficult. Each person goes through a stage in their own time. Parents wanting to help their children’s grief and loss need to model behavior. An example of that can be showing how they lean on God during the process. Another way parents can help their children’s grief and loss is by asking their kids what they are feeling. Parents can empathize with their children too. Sharing their feelings during the difficult time can show a child it’s okay for them to be struggling too.
