Kelsey Knutson-Leedy, the Special Needs Coordinator at Abundant Life, is raising a child with special needs. She joins the hosts to share her experience and the lessons she’s learned through special needs parenting. Kelsey talks about the resources she’s using to raise her stepson. She says the key is to have a strong community around while parenting a child with special needs. Being able to celebrate “wins” with parents who get it is really important in special needs parenting. Bill mentioned how some mile markers parents have might look different for families with special needs, including: Preparing for child and parent dedication Preparing for school Salvation Rite of passage Preparing for adulthood Kelsey shared the wisdom that raising your child with special needs might look different, but that doesn’t mean it’s not important or working. Sharing the Gospel with them might not be as traditional as with other children, but figuring out ways to help them learn about Jesus through their interests is the best approach.
